Alexander M. Tanger, Chairman of the Board of Managers at Marlin Broadcasting, is a broadcast consultant with over 50 years’ experience in the industry. From 1967 to May 1984, he headed the radio and television broadcasting group of General Cinema Corporation, first as a consultant and subsequently as a Senior Vice President of GCC and President of its Communications Division from 1979 to February 1984.
GCC’s operations included at various times WGKA AM and WZGC FM in Atlanta, WHUE AM/FM in Boston, WEFM FM in Chicago, WGCL FM in Cleveland, KRBE FM in Houston, WIFI FM in Philadelphia and the VHF television stations WGRZ TV in Buffalo (Channel 2) and WCIX TV in Miami/Ft. Lauderdale (Channel 6). Mr. Tanger owned a 20% equity interest, and GCC an 80% equity interest, in each of the these radio stations, all of which, together with the two television stations, have since been sold.
The formats of GCC’s radio stations under Mr. Tanger’s supervision included contemporary, easy listening and classical.
In May 1984, Mr. Tanger acquired 100% ownership of WHUE AM and FM in Boston, and he owned and operated those stations until he sold them in February 1985 and December 1984, respectively.
Between 1967 and 1974, Mr. Tanger owned and operated WLKW AM/FM in Providence, Rhode Island.
Between 1947 and 1966 he was employed in various capacities, including Senior Vice President at WHDH AM/ FM and TV Channel 5 in Boston. Between 1966 and 1968, Tanger served as a consultant to WCVB TV and the State of Israel in connection with the establishment of television broadcasting in Israel.
Mr. Tanger is a major investor in Mariner Limited Partnership, which owns and operates four Maine radio stations: WBQQ FM in Kennebunk, WQEZ FM in Kennebunkport, WPKM FM in Scarborough and WBACH in Rockland.
