Ed Ansin

The late Edmund “Ed” Ansin, the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame 2025 “Pioneer Award” winner, was best known as the owner of Boston’s WHDH-TV, Channel 7, and WLVI-TV, Channel 56. He owned WHDH for more than 25 years, and – it is said – he “revolutionized local television news” in Boston and across the country, creating a contemporary, fast-paced newscast that became the standard for the industry.

Mr. Ansin’s children, Andy, James and Stephanie, now own and operate WHDH-TV, WLVI-TV and WSVN-TV, Channel 7 in in South Florida. “Our father was a pioneer in broadcasting. He was incredibly proud of WHDH-TV and the employees who work there,” Andy Ansin said. “For a man who grew up in Worcester, acquiring the station in 1993 was a pivotal moment. He not only wanted to give New England viewers the best newscast, he also felt a responsibility to contribute to the community he loved.”
