Dennis Eckersley

From Baseball’s Hall of Fame to the Massachusetts Broadcasters Hall of Fame. After 24 years as a Major League Baseball pitcher, “Eck” began on NESN-TV in 1998 working as a color commentator for the Boston Red Sox, and on-air he proved again to be “pitch perfect!”

Dennis became known on TV for his unique, nuanced insights and a no-holds-barred style. His on-air sayings captured the moments, like “cheese” for a fastball, “going bridge” for a home run, and a particular fan favorite, “a pair of shoes” for a hitter left standing in the batter box after a called third strike. His broadcasts have been described as poetry.
