James D. (Jim) Asher, Jr.

Dedicated founder/owner/manager of WJDA, Quincy and owner of WESX, Salem. Under his leadership, the stations became treasured community institutions throughout the South and North Shores for over two decades of Boston.

(1924-1973): Dedicated founder/owner/manager of WJDA, Quincy and owner of WESX, Salem. Under his leadership, the stations became treasured community institutions throughout the South and North Shores for over two decades of Boston. Long after many other radio stations of their size had given in to automation and syndicated programming, Asher’s stations continued to cover local events and local news. At WATD, Jim also hosted a wee remembered morning program called “Breakfast with JDA. The Quincy station was also a training ground for a number of noted broadcasters, including Don Kent, Ken Coleman, and Ron Della Chiesa. Jim established a tradition of service that was maintained by his children for three decades after his death.
